Voyage is proud to share the success of our Safe In The City programme, recently delivered at Grieg City Academy in Haringey, London.
Designed to empower Year 8 students with essential skills through a series of workshops and mentoring, the programme has already made a powerful impact, boosting confidence, improving decision-making, and laying the foundations for long-term personal development.

A Safe Space to Grow
Led by Voyage tutor Duane Maddison, Safe In The City created a safe and supportive environment for young people to explore topics that matter - from emotional literacy and peer pressure to communication and goal-setting.
Through interactive workshops and reflective discussions, students were encouraged to think critically about the choices they face and how to navigate their personal journeys. The group improved their ability to focus and learn from week to week, key learning outcomes included emotional literacy, effective communication, and positive attitudes toward learning.
The Numbers Speak Volumes
Over the course of the programme:
- We saw a 90% attendance rate, showing how much students valued their time with us.
- Students reported noticeable improvements in self-belief, attitude to learning, and communication.
Mentoring Requests on the Rise
Perhaps the most powerful outcome was that many students actively asked for mentoring support beyond the classroom sessions. This clear call for deeper connection shows the value of ongoing relationships in supporting a young person’s development. We’re listening, and we’re ready to respond.
What’s Next?
Building on the success of Safe in the City at Greig City Academy, we’re excited to announce plans to continue the programme over the next three years. This initiative has created a vital space for young people to explore issues around safety, identity, and personal development, while equipping them with practical tools to navigate challenges in their communities.
We’re excited to continue working alongside local schools to ensure young people have the tools and support they need to thrive.
