Good for Girls — Creating Safe Spaces, Confidence and Future Pathways for Young Women

At Voyage, we recognise that young women need dedicated spaces where they can grow, be heard, and build confidence without pressure or judgement. The Good for Girls Project is a focused programme designed to create exactly that: a safe, supportive and empowering environment for girls, led by female tutors and mentors who understand the importance of representation, trust and lived experience.

A Safe Space for Growth and Expression

The foundation of the Good for Girls Project is safety, not just physical safety, but emotional and social safety too. It is a space where young women can speak freely, explore who they are, and develop confidence in their voice. Sessions are shaped around openness, respect, and encouragement, ensuring every participant feels valued and included.

The project is intentionally designed to support girls at a crucial stage of their development, where identity, aspiration and self-belief are still forming. By creating a consistent, trusted environment led by female facilitators, the programme helps young women build resilience, communication skills and confidence in both themselves and their future pathways.

Led by Female Tutors and Role Models

A key strength of the project is its leadership. The sessions are delivered by female tutors and mentors who bring not only professional expertise but also relatable experience and cultural understanding. This representation matters. It ensures that young women see leadership reflected in people who look like them, speak like them, and understand their journeys.

These tutors support participants through structured workshops, group discussions, and creative activities designed to encourage reflection, ambition and personal development. The relationships built within these sessions are often just as important as the content itself, providing consistent encouragement and guidance over time.

Inspiration Through Real-World Exposure — Mintel Visit

A major highlight of the programme was a visit to Mintel, a leading global market research organisation. This experience gave the girls direct insight into the world of data, consumer behaviour, business intelligence and research-driven decision making.

More importantly, the visit introduced participants to inspiring Black women working within the organisation, who shared their career journeys, challenges and successes. Hearing from these professionals provided a powerful example of what is possible across industries that young people may not traditionally see themselves entering.

For many of the girls, this was their first time stepping into a corporate environment of this scale. The experience helped break down assumptions about who belongs in professional spaces and opened up new ideas about future careers in research, media, business and analysis.

Building Confidence, Skills and Ambition

Throughout the project, young women are encouraged to develop both personal and practical skills. This includes communication, teamwork, critical thinking and self-expression. Activities are designed to be engaging and reflective, allowing participants to explore their strengths while also challenging themselves in supportive ways.

The programme also places strong emphasis on ambition, helping girls to think about their futures with confidence and clarity. Whether through group discussions, workshops, or external visits like Mintel, the project consistently reinforces the message that their goals are valid, achievable, and worth pursuing.

A Space That Feels Different on Purpose

The Good for Girls Project is intentionally different from traditional learning environments. It prioritises trust over assessment, conversation over instruction, and lived experience over abstract theory. This approach allows participants to engage more deeply, speak more openly, and support one another in meaningful ways.

The environment created by female tutors ensures that discussions around identity, pressure, wellbeing and aspiration can take place honestly. This openness is central to the success of the programme, helping young women feel seen and understood rather than judged or measured.

Why This Work Matters

Projects like Good for Girls are essential because they address gaps that often exist in mainstream provision. Too often, young women, particularly those from underrepresented communities, do not have consistent access to spaces where their experiences are centred and their potential is actively nurtured.

By combining safe space provision, mentorship, real-world exposure and inspirational role models, the programme helps to build foundations that go beyond a single workshop or session. It supports long-term confidence, aspiration and resilience.

This is not just about engagement, it is about empowerment, opportunity, and ensuring that young women are equipped to shape their own futures on their own terms.

This project is ongoing, with more workshops, visits and development opportunities planned as part of the Good for Girls journey.
